This tempting Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, and Avocado Salad is my favorite take on the classic BLT sandwich. None of the bread, but all of the flavor!
The Good Old Days
If you are a little confused when I say “BLT” sandwich, there is so much that you are missing out on! A “BLT” is exactly what the letters stand for: bacon, lettuce, and tomato. Slap those three ingredients between 2 slices of bread and you have a 90’s delicatessen. The bread is often coated with mayonnaise, but I usually pass on that. I remember the good old days when my Nana would make me a BLT with the fresh tomatoes from her garden. I would help cook the bacon in the kitchen, which would rarely make it to our plates. If you haven’t had a BLT sandwich, I would definitely make or try one!
Avoca-DUH!
Fast forward to 2019 when adding avocado or guac to your food is a nationwide trend. I distinctly remember when we first started dating, Allen and I went out for lunch at a cute local cafe. I can’t remember what I ordered, but I will never forget what Allen had. He pointed out a “BLTA ” sandwich on the menu that caught my attention. I thought to myself, “Well, I know what a BLT is, but what does the 4th letter stand for?” “Avocado!”, Allen shouted with delight. Could it be that the classic and already perfect BLT sandwich received an upgrade? I was scared, yet intrigued to see if it was better than the original. You betcha it was! This Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, and Avocado Salad is inspired by the classic BLT, and the amazing upgrade that the sandwich deserved.
Enjoy!
