Tofu, or Not Tofu…
One of my favorite toppings that adds an extra crunch to a hearty salad is croutons. I love them! Unfortunately, store bought croutons are filled with gross preservatives and empty calories. One day, I was trying to make air fried tofu and I accidentally set the time for longer than it should have been. When I returned to the kitchen, I came to find that the tofu had hardened (like rock hard). Then, I realized that the settings reverted to the last time I cooked something for a long time. I immediately thought “wow, these kinda look like croutons. I wonder if I could make that work?” Next, it took a few times of trying to get the crunch acceptable. After several attempts, I successfully made rosemary garlic tofu croutons for this salad and they were delicious!
*Full disclosure, they aren’t 100% like regular croutons. In texture, it’s like almost not even close. Maybe 40% (lol). However, if you don’t mind the difference with healthier substitutions, this is a viable option!
The recipe is super easy. The only issue is that you have to have an Air Fryer. I use my Gourmia that I got and I love it! There are endless amounts of foods that you can cook in it. You can be as healthy or unhealthy as you want. Are you craving tater tots? Throw them in the Air Fryer! Do you want to whip up some grilled asparagus in the winter? Throw them in the Air Fryer! Anything you name can be cooked in there. Get yours today!
Rosemary Garlic AirFryer Tofu Croutons
Equipment
- Air Fryer
Ingredients
- 16 oz extra firm tofu
- 4 Tbs almond flour
- 1 Tbs rosemary
- 1 Tbs garlic powder
- dash black pepper
Instructions
- Cut one block of tofu longways into 1" wide strips to be able to cut 1" by 1" cubes
- Place the tofu cubes into a large bowl with the rest of the ingredients
- TOSS GENTLY until thoroughly coated
- Cook in the Air Fryer for 25 minutes at 350F, tossing every 5 minutes
- Serve on your next salad!
